Separated into three separate locations, the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site consists of two park areas, Chimney Park and de Mores Memorial Park, and the Chateau de Mores itself. This 26-room frame home was the home of the Marquis de Mores, a French nobleman who emigrated to North Dakota in 1883 to try for wealth in the cattle industry and meatpacking. The residence is filled with opulent antiques from the family's collection, and this site along with the two park areas commemorate the man who was central in revolutionizing the town in the late 19th century. Set just outside town, the historic home and parks are not far from the southern boundary of Theodore Roosevelt National Park's South Unit.
